Many resources go into the production of a cell phone such as, timber for the cardboard box, metals, LED lights, along with plastics and synthetic rubbers for its body and screen. These are obtained through large-scale operations like mining and logging, which are often very detrimental to the environment. The problem not only applies to production because once the consumer has the phone it must be charged, requiring more electricity produced by power plants that burn fossil fuels and release CO2 emissions. Once the phone has reached the end of its life, it must be disposed of. The cellphone can be discarded, recycled, or reused.
